If you live in austin you may have driven past it once or twice but this year driving and or walking through it is a must.

Austin christmas lights 37th street. Austin kxan a decades old tradition is once again spreading christmas cheer. We all know that austin is weird but we wouldn t have the city any other way. Seeing the christmas lights on 37th street is a required holiday activity. This december a christmas loving austin street is being transformed into the weirdest christmas light display we ve ever seen and also the best.

The houses were quirkily decorated and some had themes like pac man a stuffed animal petting zoo and the netflix series stranger things. This is another rite of passage for every true austinite. When i was in college i always heard about the amazing 37th street christmas lights so i finally decided to see them with my own eyes. After tapering off in recent years due to fewer and fewer people participating the lights on 37th street are back.

Austin s 37th street lights sparked up for the holidays austin tx what began as a resident s lament at lights shortage has turned into one of the city s most beloved and quintessentially. I grew up in austin and have been aware of the 37th street christmas light decorating tradition for many years but i had never been over to see them before tonight.
