We spent our christmas holiday in taos new mexico and made it to the taos pueblo christmas eve celebration to experience an incredibly powerful night.

The entire town turns out for these events as they are part of the magic that is taos. The event starts just before sunset when the fires are lit and the procession starts. On christmas eve head to taos pueblo for a stunning contrast between massive bonfires and the procession of the virgin with rifle salutes from the rooftops of the millennium year old adobe pueblo buildings. On the southern end of town in the communities of ranchos de taos and talpa the los comanches ceremony is performed to honor emanuel the newborn christ child.

The taos peublo has christmas eve and christmas day events that are nothing short of spectacular and spiritual. Spanish influenced traditions food decorations and events make the holidays here unlike the traditional american christmas. The 2019 taos holiday season officially kicks off with the annual lighting of the town christmas tree during the 33rd annual yuletide caroling and tree lighting on friday december 6 2019 from 4 00 pm to 7 00 pm at the taos plaza. Combining christian and ancient native american traditions the events at the pueblo are reason enough to come that time of year.
